About
Creative Community
Upon climbing the stairs and entering the first-floor space, you’ll discover a generous open-plan environment with big windows, high ceilings and an uncomplicated design aesthetic that references the building’s industrial past.
The layout is divided into two distinct spaces - one where productive work can flourish and one where residents can rest and unwind.
Capped at 26 large desks, everyone here is a familiar face, with informal interactions often sparking new ideas and valuable learning opportunities.
“The space is relaxed and peaceful. The people are laidback and exactly what you'd expect for the area. It feels a little like Berlin. Egalitarian, creative and friendly. Not too up itself.”
- Catherine Deveny

Events & Neighbours
Rubato Upstairs presents occasional events for both coworkers and members of the local community, addressing topics related to working, thinking and thriving creatively.
We have a great bunch of neighbours in this ever-changing patch of Brunswick – including Hope Street Space, Ovens Street Bakery, Very Good Falafel, A1 Bakery, Small Axe Deli and Nightingale Village. And located right downstairs is Tempo Rubato, a live classical music venue and bar described by Broadsheet as “Brunswick’s answer to the Concert Hall”. Every now and then in the late afternoon, beautiful piano music floats up from below like an easy breeze.
We proudly acknowledge the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation, the traditional custodians of the land upon which Rubato Upstairs stands. We recognise their continuing connection to land, water and culture.
